Aliso Viejo is one of south Orange County's younger cities, mostly built as a planned community in the late 1980s and 1990s. That means a lot of townhomes and condos with compact mechanical closets, attic air handlers and long, shared-wall dryer vent runs. Plenty of the original HVAC equipment from that building boom is now reaching the age where repairs get more frequent. Summers are mild but warm enough that a tired AC shows its age every August.
