Cooling that fits how Southern California actually gets hot
Air conditioning here isn't one-size-fits-all. A house in Pacific Beach might need its AC a few dozen afternoons a year, while a home in Santee, Escondido or Mission Viejo can be running it hard from June through the Santa Ana stretch in October. The right answer for your home depends on where it sits, how it was built, and how old the equipment in your attic or side yard really is.
Sky Clean Air has been working inside San Diego homes since 2018, and we now cover Orange County from San Clemente up to Brea. We handle every part of cooling, from a quick fix on a system that quit last night to planning a brand-new install.
Which AC service do you need?
If you're not sure where to start, here's how most homeowners sort it out:
- Your AC stopped cooling, is making noise, or is leaking water. Start with AC repair. A tech will find the actual cause and give you a written price before any work begins.
- Your system is 15+ years old, keeps breaking down, or you've never had central air. Look at AC installation. We'll size a system to your house instead of just matching the tonnage on the old unit.
- You have no ductwork, or one room never gets comfortable. A ductless mini-split is often the cleanest fix for older homes, garage conversions, ADUs and room additions.
- Everything works, but you want it to keep working. A seasonal AC tune-up before summer catches small problems while they're still small.
Not sure which bucket you fall into? That's normal. Tell us what's going on and we'll point you in the right direction, even if it turns out to be a filter.
Repair or replace: the honest version
We don't believe every older system needs to come out. Plenty of 12-year-old units have years left with a new capacitor and a cleaned coil. What we look at is the age of the equipment, how often it has needed repairs, whether it runs on an outdated refrigerant, and whether the ducts feeding it are sound. When we recommend replacement, we'll explain why, and we'll show you the repair option side by side so you can decide.
A lot of our customers first meet us through duct cleaning or dryer vent work. While we're there, our techs take a look at the whole HVAC system and let you know if anything is worth keeping an eye on. No pressure, just information.

Air Conditioning: Frequently Asked Questions
Do you work on all AC brands?
We service most major brands of central air conditioners, heat pumps and ductless systems. If you have something unusual, mention the brand when you call and we'll let you know up front.
How fast can someone come out?
Same-day or next-day appointments are often available, especially early in the week. During a heat wave demand spikes across the county, so calling early in the day helps.
Is central air or a mini-split better for my home?
If your home already has decent ductwork, central air is usually the simplest way to cool the whole house. If there are no ducts, or you're only trying to cool part of the home, a mini-split often makes more sense. We'll walk through both during a free estimate.
Do you serve Orange County now?
Yes. Orange County is our newest service area, from San Clemente and Mission Viejo up through Irvine and Brea, with the same team and the same approach we've used in San Diego since 2018.
Do you offer financing on new systems?
Yes, financing options are available on new installs. Ask during your estimate and we'll go over what's available alongside your written price.
How long does AC installation take?
A standard replacement where ducts and wiring are already in place is usually finished in one day. A first-time install or a job with new ductwork can take longer, and we'll give you a timeline with your estimate.
Do I need new ductwork?
Not always. We inspect the existing ducts during the estimate. If they're sealed, sized reasonably and in decent shape, we'll reuse them. If they're leaking badly or collapsed, replacing them now is usually cheaper than doing it separately later.
Can you come out today?
Often, yes. Same-day and next-day appointments are frequently available, though during heat waves the schedule fills fast. Calling in the morning gives you the best shot at a same-day visit.
Should I keep running my AC if it's blowing warm air?
If you see ice on the lines, hear grinding, or the outdoor fan isn't spinning, turn it off. Running it in those conditions can turn a small repair into a compressor replacement. If it's just not keeping up on a very hot day, it's usually fine to run while you wait for us.
Do mini-splits heat as well as cool?
Nearly all modern mini-splits are heat pumps, so yes. For San Diego and Orange County winters, a properly sized unit handles heating comfortably.
How big a hole do you need to make in the wall?
Usually around three inches across, per indoor unit. It's sealed around the line set and covered on the outside.
