Indoor Air Quality

Indoor Air Quality Solutions for San Diego & Orange County Homes

Smoke in the fall, pollen in the spring, a musty closet by the beach, dry air out in the valleys. Better indoor air starts with figuring out which problem your house actually has.

Indoor Air Quality services by Sky Clean Air

Start with the problem, not the product

"Air quality" covers a lot of ground, and the right fix for a stuffy Ocean Beach bungalow is not the right fix for a dusty stucco house in Escondido. Before we recommend any equipment, we want to know what you're noticing. Here are the complaints we hear most often across San Diego and Orange County, and what tends to help.

Wildfire smoke and Santa Ana dust

When the Santa Anas blow or a fire is burning somewhere in the county, fine particles get into homes through every gap. The most effective answer is better filtration at the HVAC system, so every room gets filtered air whenever the fan runs. That's the job of a whole-home air purifier or an upgraded media filter.

Allergies and pets

Pollen, dust and pet dander are particles, so they're also a filtration problem. A higher-grade filter in a proper housing captures far more of them than the thin filter most systems came with. If your ducts are full of years of buildup, duct cleaning is worth considering alongside it.

Musty smells and coastal humidity

Near the coast, from Imperial Beach to Oceanside and up through Huntington Beach, the marine layer keeps things damp. That moisture can lead to a musty odor from the AC, especially when the coil and drain pan stay wet. A UV light aimed at the coil helps keep microbial growth there in check. In homes that stay humid year-round, a dehumidifier may be the better fix.

Dry air inland

Out in El Cajon, Santee, Ramona or Escondido, the problem is often the opposite: dry skin, static shocks, scratchy throats, especially during Santa Ana season and when the heat is running. A whole-home humidifier adds moisture back through the HVAC system.

How to choose

A simple rule of thumb: particles (smoke, dust, pollen, dander) call for filtration. Moisture problems call for humidity control. Growth on the coil and a musty AC smell call for UV and cleaning. Many homes end up with one well-chosen upgrade, not three. If a tech tells you that you need everything, ask why.

It's also worth being realistic. No system turns indoor air into a clean room, and none of these replace good habits like changing filters on schedule and running a bathroom fan.

Why Sky Clean Air

We started in 2018 as a duct cleaning company, so indoor air is where our roots are. Today we're a full HVAC and indoor air quality company serving 5,000 to 6,000 customers a year from our Kearny Mesa office, with EPA-certified technicians and a 5-star rating across roughly 1,000 Google and Yelp reviews. We'll look at your system, ask about what's bothering you, and give you a written price before any work. If your HVAC is old enough that an upgrade doesn't make sense, we'll say so. Indoor Air Quality: Frequently Asked Questions

What's the single most effective air quality upgrade?

For most homes, better filtration at the HVAC system. Smoke, dust, pollen and dander are all particles, and a good filter in a proper housing catches them throughout the house every time the system runs.

Will a UV light help with allergies?

Not much on its own. UV is best at keeping the AC coil and drain pan from growing mold and bacteria, which helps with musty odors. Allergens like pollen and dander are handled by filtration.

Do I need a humidifier or a dehumidifier?

It depends on where you live and how your home feels. Coastal homes more often deal with dampness, while inland homes are more likely to run dry. We can help you figure out which, if either, you need.

Can you add air quality equipment to my existing system?

Usually, yes. Most filtration, UV and humidity equipment connects to the system you already have. We'll check that your system and ductwork can support it first.

Does a UV air purifier kill viruses?

UV-C light can damage viruses and bacteria with enough exposure, but air moves through your system too fast for a lamp to treat it thoroughly. We don't sell UV as protection against illness. Its real strength is keeping the coil and drain pan free of mold and bacterial growth.

Will a UV light help with my allergies?

Probably not much. Most allergy triggers, like pollen, dust and pet dander, are particles, and UV doesn't capture particles. Better filtration is the upgrade that helps allergies.

Is a whole-home air purifier better than a portable one?

For whole-house coverage, usually yes. A central system filters air for every room on your ductwork and runs quietly out of sight. Portable units still make sense for a specific room, like a bedroom during a bad smoke week, and many people keep one for that.

Does it help with wildfire smoke?

Yes. Smoke is made of fine particles, and a high-efficiency filter captures a large share of them as air passes through. It works best with the HVAC fan running and the house closed up.
